Dental Implants in Brown Deer WI
Strong, healthy teeth allow you to eat comfortably and speak clearly while also supporting your lips and cheeks and creating a fuller, more youthful facial appearance. Equally important is the fact that good oral health makes you want to show off your confident smile proudly!
At Lakeside Dental, we want you to enjoy all the benefits of a whole and healthy smile. Dr. Nathan Knutsen is pleased to offer dental implants that restore lost function and improve your appearance.
Why Replacing Teeth Is Important
You may think the loss of a tooth isn’t a big deal, especially if the tooth is not visible when you smile. But the fact is that your teeth are all designed to work together, and the loss of even one tooth impacts comfort, speech patterns, appearance, and also your quality of life. However, there’s another important role that your teeth play, and that is to keep the structure of your jaw healthy.
When a natural tooth root is present, it stimulates the growth of healthy tissue and bone in your jaw. But when you lose a tooth, the bone starts to break down in a process called resorption.
Choosing dental implants as a tooth replacement offers many advantages:
- Restores your smile to its youthful, fresh appearance
- Increases your ability to chew properly
- Prevents adjacent teeth from moving out of position
- Prevents deterioration of your jawbone
State-of-the-Art Dental Implants
While dental implants may seem like a recent innovation, they have been used for about 40 years with a 95% success rate. They are now widely accepted as the tooth replacement method of choice because of the benefits they offer.
A dental implant is comprised of three pieces – a titanium implant post, an abutment connector, and the restoration. The first step involves surgically placing the post in your jaw.
We are pleased to offer our patients state-of-the-art implant dentistry. Dr. Nathan Knutsen has extensive experience in placing implants and uses 3-D cone beam computerized tomography (CBCT) to ensure the best possible outcome for your procedure.
Dr. Knutsen uses CBCT when planning for dental implants to measure the quality and density of bone in your jaw. CBCT produces a high-resolution 3-D image that shows the relationships between teeth, bones, nerves, airways, and tissues in your mouth. This information helps us create a surgical guide that Dr. Knutsen uses for optimal placement of your implant. Accurately planning placement results in an efficient procedure and the best possible long-term outcome.
Restoring Your Dental Implant
There are several options we can recommend for restoring the function and esthetics of a lost tooth. Dental crowns are typically paired with an implant to replace a single tooth. Our high-quality esthetic crowns are designed to look, fit, and feel lifelike. If more than one tooth is missing, Dr. Knutsen may also recommend a dental bridge as an option.
We have also had tremendous success with dental implants when using them to hold dentures securely in place. Today, we can place several implants at various points along your jaw and design a denture with attachments that snap onto the implants. In this way, we can stabilize a full or partial denture to prevent embarrassing accidents.
