Being proactive with your oral health care is essential if you want to enjoy a problem-free smile. But we know that for many people, staying current with dental appointments is a challenge. This, unfortunately, leads to neglect, which results in poor oral health.
If you need a little more help to get through your appointments, let us know! At Lakeside Dental, we are pleased to offer our patients comfortable sedation dentistry.
How We Help with Your Dental Anxiety
Dental anxiety is a very real problem that affects millions of people, and we want to do everything we can to support your goals for a healthy smile.
Dr. Nathan Knutsen has been practicing for 15 years and has helped many patients trade their anxious feelings for a healthier smile. We have created a warm and inviting office environment staffed with kind people who make your comfort a priority.
We don’t rush our appointments, so we can take all the time you need to ensure that you have a pleasant, stress-free experience. Some people need a little more help to get through their appointments, and that is why we are pleased to offer customized sedation options.
Customized Sedation Options
Everyone experiences their anxiety differently, but our goal is always the same – to help you relax so you can get the care you need. Before your treatment, we will discuss your concerns so we can find the sedation option that’s appropriate for you.
Of course, we always ensure that your mouth is numb before we begin a procedure, but we can also help you decide whether you might benefit from:
Also called inhalation sedation, nitrous oxide is a mild form of sedation that is safe for both children and adults. We administer nitrous oxide through a comfortable nasal mask, so you can just relax and breathe normally.
In a few moments, you will experience a calming sensation and a mildly euphoric feeling. Nitrous allows you to detach from the activity around you so you can relax while we do the work. We often use nitrous oxide for children who have trouble sitting still so we can provide them with the safe care they need.
Our busy patients often choose nitrous oxide because the drowsy sensation ends as soon as we stop administering it. When your appointment is over, you can go back to your usual routine feeling alert and refreshed.
Oral Conscious Sedation
Nitrous is beneficial, but some patients need a little bit more help to relax. In this case, we can prescribe a mild sedative that you should take about an hour before your appointment. You will arrive at our office feeling very calm and a little drowsy so you can relax comfortably during your procedure.
The only downside is that the oral medication remains in your system for several hours. Your safety is one of our highest priorities, so if you decide on an oral medication for sedation, you will need to arrange with a friend to drive you to and from your appointment.
